As buildings around the world rise ever higher, KONE developed a revolutionary new elevator technology, UltraRope™, which enables lifts to rise up to 1km in one go – twice as high as is possible with existing steel rope technology. We showed how KONE’s ground-breaking technology will transform the cities of tomorrow with a “press conference in the sky”, held in a helicopter exactly 1km above London to dramatically illustrate the reach of the new super-light, carbon-fibre cored UltraRope™. The Council for Tall Buildings unveiled UltraRope™ to 400 delegates and journalists and explored the possibilities of living at height in the cities of the future. From major features in the Economist and Financial Times to packages on CNN, NBC and Dubai TV the campaign delivered the most significant media coverage in KONE’s history. After the launch, UltraRope™ was selected for the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, the tallest building in the world, and the V&A museum acquired a piece of UltraRope™ for its collection.
